Wound Care

Any chronic, non-healing wound can be assessed and treated in a Wound Care Center (WCC). In an LPC setting, about half of the wounds treated are diabetic foot ulcers. Other wounds include venous ulcers, pressure sores, post-operative non-healing wounds, wounds arising from autoimmune conditions, and other etiologies. Our medical advisory team and administrative experts are available not only for initial training, but also for ongoing support and education. The academic team will work with the local providers for quality review and performance improvement plans and will be available to answer questions about cases or specific care plans.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Our team provides end-to-end support to ensure the successful launch and operation of a new hyperbaric oxygen therapy program. Our process begins with a feasibility analysis and business planning, which includes evaluating market demand, financial projections, and determining the strategic fit for the practice. Once we determine that your center will have a viable patient volume, we will support with facility design and equipment procurement by guiding space planning, selecting appropriate hyperbaric chambers, managing installation, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Hyperbaric regulatory and accreditation support is provided to help the practice navigate licensure requirements, obtain CMS credentialing, and pursue UHMS or other relevant accreditations. To establish a strong operational foundation, APEX will supply its own customized policies, procedures, and clinical protocols specific to wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy services.

Limb Preservation

A Limb Preservation Center (LPC) is a center of excellence for treating chronic wound conditions that often lead to unnecessary major lower limb amputations. The center provides physician and clinical staff with training in protocols designed to prevent amputations, access to the necessary specialists within ideal time frames, utilization of topical technology advances to expedite wound healing; use of adjunctive treatments when appropriate; and tracking of outcomes to continuously improve quality. The providers that treat patients in the center include podiatry foot and ankle surgeons and endovascular specialists. Patients in an LPC receive an average of two to three surgical procedures during their course of treatment: 1.) a thorough wound debridement or excision; 2.) a revascularization procedure; and/or 3.) a closure procedure, such as a skin graft. The surgical nature of the LPC produces substanstial revenue for the hospital and gives patients the best chance at saving their limb.
